Title of Position: Caregiver

As a Caregiver you will:

  • Follows the plan of care to help the consumer to maintain good personal hygiene and maintain a healthful, safe environment, is to perform ONLY those functions specified for each individual consumer.
  • Will follow Agency policies and procedures. This applies to contracted employees also.
  • Demonstrate competency in all areas of training for personal care.
  • Document observations and services in the individual consumer record.
  • Report any change in the consumer’s mental or physical condition or in the home situation to his/her immediate supervisor.
  • Caregivers may assist consumers with the following activities;

a. Transportation (errands, appointments, etc.)
b. Meal preparation and planning
c. Housekeeping / Laundry
d. Medication reminders (competent consumer’s only)
e. Activities of daily life as needed (Bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and ambulation assistance)

Responsibilities
  • The ability to drive and the ability to access consumers’ homes which may not be routinely wheelchair accessible are required
  • Hearing, eyesight and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform a physical assessment of the consumer’s condition and to perform consumer care
  • On occasion, may be required to bend, stoop, reach and assist with consumer transfers
  • Must have pre-employment checks, a physical within three months prior to employment, a completed orientation, competency test prior to providing care and annually, annual performance evaluation
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
Qualifications

Our ideal Caregiver has a high school diploma or GED and previous experience caring for seniors and/or the disabled. He or she must have a genuine desire to help others, excellent business and personal references, and reliable transportation. Applicants must be bondabe, able to pass a drug screen, the required training and orientation program and all abuse registry & State/Federal criminal background checks

  • Must be free from health problems that may be injurious to consumer, self and co-workers and must present appropriate evidence to substantiate this
  • Must comprehend the basics of personal care, housekeeping and meal preparation
  • Must understand and respect consumer’s including ethics and confidentiality of care
  • Must be able to understand, read and write English. Bilingual candidates are a plus
  • CNA/Aide Certificate (preferred, not required)
  • Must be able to pass drug screen and criminal background checks prior to employment
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a working cell phone

About the Role

Our caregivers provide non-medical, in-home support to our consumers, which include seniors and others requiring assistance in their day to day lives. This is performed under the direction, instruction and supervision of a qualified supervisor. As a caregiver, you will supply companionship to those individuals requiring socialization and mentorship for a safe, protected, clean, and orderly environment, in addition to, having the flexibility to provide for our consumers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care and/or hygiene assistance for elderly consumers by attending to their basic needs, such as showering, bathing, dressing and eating
  • Remind consumers to take medication and assist consumers with ambulation
  • Help with mobility around the house or outside (doctor’s appointments, walks etc.)
  • Plan and prepare meals and help with exercises
  • Complete consumer’s shopping or accompany them to successfully do so
  • Perform housekeeping duties and report any unusual incidents
  • Act quickly and responsibly in cases of emergency
  • Offer activities that are essential for daily living by assisting consumer with their meals, including serving and other tasks, if necessary
Qualifications
  • Bilingual – A fluent English/Spanish speaking caregiver required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent/Experience as a Caregiver, CNA or HHA, or completion of a CNA Program
  • Enjoy working in a one-on-one setting, eager to improve and continuously learn new skills
  • Ability to assist with consumer transfer with or without accommodations
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Validated ability to act in a compassionate and supportive manner
  • Available to work different shifts, including nights and/or weekends
  • Prior experience in a healthcare or in-home care environment (minimum of 1 year)
  • Willingness to enforce to health and safety standards
  • Supportive and compassionate
  • Take pride in providing high quality care
  • Assistive Devices experience a plus
  • Ability to pass both a drug screen and federal criminal background check
  • Must have a working cell phone
